The point is simply this: Youth Sports is about fostering the competitive spirit, preparing our kids for an adult life where they’ll have to adapt to and overcome adversity, and giving them a healthy balance of physical activity. Youth Sports is suppose to be a fun way to compete with our friends. Of course we “Want to Win”, but we don’t have to win to have a great experience. The real purpose is to keep a kid excited about playing youth sports and in doing so, we may find out if they are good enough to play at a higher level – or just enjoy sports for the rest of their adult life.
In addition, participating in youth sports gives you an opportunity to bond with your child while providing them a fun atmosphere to learn live lessons like teamwork, overcoming adversity, personal growth and CELEBRATION!
Take a look at your own youth sports philosophy. Does it support your athlete’s best interest? Will it burn them out by age 12? Are your goals for them attainable?
