Use the Tools You’ve Got
Any coach can recruit a group of talented athletes to win a sports contest, there’s no magic in that. And winning a season or tournament with a group of handpicked natural ability athletes is more detrimental to their development as players and leaders than it is helpful.
Because the only thing they’ve learned is how to do what they already do well. The downside to being a youth athlete with natural talent is that you don’t have to work hard to succeed. And working hard is more than just perfecting a skill…it’s learning how to be a leader, a player, an unselfish member of a team.
